The commission, which objected to the name of the Samyukta Samaj Morcha, took the decision; All the candidates, including Rajewal, have filed their nominations as independents.

The Election Commission has recognised the Samyukta Samaj Morcha (SSM) formed by farmers' organisations as a political party in the Punjab Assembly elections. However, the Commission has not yet issued the election symbol to it. The Commission had some objection to the name of the Samyukta Samaj Morcha, due to which the matter of its recognition was stuck.

In the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections, different farmers' organisations of the state had formed this morcha and applied to the Commission for recognition. The Samyukta Samaj Morcha has made farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal its chief ministerial face.

Now the need for an election symbol

SSM spokesperson and Mohali candidate Ravneet Singh Brar said that he has received the letter of recognition given by the Election Commission. Ravneet said, "Earlier, the Election Commission had an objection in the name of The Samyukta Samaj Morcha, but now they have approved it. However, the party is yet to be registered as some process is yet to be done. They have demanded a common symbol from the Election Commission.

The commission had objections to the name

The SSM had earlier applied twice to the Election Commission seeking recognition of the Samyukta Samaj Morcha (SSM) as a political party. The Commission was confused about its name. On not getting recognition, Balbir Singh Rajewal had alleged that his party could not be registered because of Aam Aadmi Party and BJP.

He has filed his nomination as an independent candidate.

The SSM had applied twice to the Election Commission arguing that the front was fielding candidates in 117 seats in Punjab. Therefore, a common election symbol should be given, which is their constitutional right. Rajewal, who expressed displeasure over the rejection of the application by the Election Commission, had also questioned the neutrality of the Commission. On the last day of nominations after the Election Commission refused to recognise it, the morcha's chief ministerial face Rajewal and other candidates filed their nominations as independent candidates.

Rajewal was ready to contest as an independent.

Balbir Singh Rajewal has been declared the CM candidate after forming a political party of the Samyukta Samaj Morcha of 22 farmer organisations that entered punjab politics. The Election Commission's decision on the recognition was earlier being considered that the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha candidates can contest on the cup plate, the symbol of their ally, the Samyukta Sangharsh Morcha. But there has been no agreement on this.

The cup plate could not be agreed

Later, it has been decided that all the independents will file their nomination papers as candidates. It is also being said that Rajewal did not want him to fight on the symbol of farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni's Samyukta Sangharsh Morcha, in such a situation, the farmers of Punjab will be directly under the leader of Haryana. Now, after the Election Commission's decision to recognise the SSM, they will now contest under the banner of the morcha instead of independents.
